Even in Montecristi, Ecuador, the cradle of the finest hats in world, quality can vary significantly and so can price. It depends on how each piece is handled individually from beginning to end, the amount of steps implemented, the weaving skill, the straw quality and of course, the way it's finished. I select those pieces that follow at least 15 steps, where only the most skilled people are involved in each part of the long manual process, using the same artisan tools as 300 years ago. We do NOT have a factory. Each artisan works their part o the process at home.
